Bill Plympton es todo un personaje del más genuino cine independiente norteamericano. Ejerce la animación de autor hace más de dos décadas. Nominado al Oscar al mejor cortometraje animado en 1987 por "Your Face".

Nació en Portland, Oregon el 30 de abril de 1946, y creció en una numerosa familia. En 1964 se graduó del Oregon City High School y continuó sus estudios en la Portland State University, donde formó parte de un club de cine. Y fue ahí justamente donde comenzó a indagar en el campo del cine de animación.
En 1968, se trasladó a New York City y comenzó un año de estudios en la School of Visual Arts donde se destacó como ilustrador y realizador de caricaturas. Al diseñar las revistas Cineaste, Filmmakers Newsletter Newsletter, y la Film Society Review. Sus ilustraciones aparecieron en el New York Times, Vogue, House Beautiful, The Village Voice, Rolling Stone, crew, y Vanity Fair. Sus caricaturas en publicaciones como Viva, Penthouse, National Lampoon, y Glamour.
